Forgings for the power generation equipment and plant engineering and construction industries.

Investment was concentrated on a 55 MN open-die forging press and a hot strip pickling plant to improve the surface quality of the hot strip. The Research and Development function at Edelstahlwerke Buderus introduced a new computer-aided quality planning and control system. At the same time high-quality forged products just developed for power generation and plant engineering systems were launched, including high-alloy generator shafts for power stations. The research effort also served to develop materials and improve the quality of hot-working steels for large-dimension die-casting moulds and forging dies.
